Midnight Sky

I wanted to do this challenge for several reasons.  Number one, every February I get into this introspective mode, where I want to evaluate my life and I guess February's association to Valentine's Day makes me think about love and romance and my life.  Number two, I feel the need to challenge myself in writing.  I do this often, but this is a big challenge because it's difficult for me to stay consistent...in anything. Number three, I want to write about something that's difficult for me to express because that makes it even more of a challenge for me because it means that I have to look within.

This year, I decided to challenge myself to review my favorite love songs, but I wanted it to be different.  At first glance, when you hear about someone's favorite love songs you might expect the love expressions that are happy, and romantic and special.  However, I realized that there are a variety of expressions of love that I wanted to discuss.  I like the love songs that discuss the heartbreak that comes from love, I love songs that discuss the times when you are missing love or longing for love.

In Miley Cyrus, "Midnight Sky" she sings about being free of love and I love the mood and the feeling I get from listening to this song.  It feels like freedom.  Only a Sagittarius could sing about freedom in its truest form--excitement, curiosity, expectation. The entire song screams-a fiery Sagittarius with lyrics like -

"Uh, lotta years went by with my hands tied up in your ropes,"

As a fellow Sagittarius I can attest to the fact that we hate being tied down...to anything.  That includes relationships and it was a hard pill to swallow for me that as much as I claimed to want relationships in my heart of hearts the thought of forever truly terrifies me.  After a few failed relationships I realized that I must deal with this feeling, or I would continue to unknowingly self-sabotage in relationships and continue to blame it on others.

"Head high up in the clouds, I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone,"

Sagittarius are signs that are known for being great thinkers and people that are philosophical.  I realized that being this type a person makes it where you spend a lot of time alone because you want to evaluate everything, every word, gesture and more.  Head in the clouds is a way I would refer to myself.

"Fire in my lungs, can't bite the devil on my tongue,"

Sagittarius have fiery personalities and it can be a double edge sword.  Words of truth come out harsh, but a Sagittarius has a way of saying truths that sting and no one likes to be stung.  I understand the feeling of wanting to speak the truth no matter who it hurts because it hurts you first.

Sagittarius value freedom and adventure.  I love the hardness and raspiness of her voice in this song.  Here are a few more quotes from the song that I believe represent more of Miley's Sagittarius personality showing in her song, "Midnight Sky".

Said it ain't so bad if I wanna make a couple mistakes. You should know right now that I never stay put in one place

Forever and ever, no more (no more).

No Earthly Good by Candace L. Smith

No Earthly Good Available on Amazon What happens when faith no longer fits the shape you were given? When love requires boundaries? When legacy feels more dangerous than divine? No Earthly Good is a fearless, reflective exploration of belief, sacrifice, love, judgment, family, legacy, and acceptance, told through lived experience rather than doctrine. With honesty and spiritual maturity, Candace L. Smith interrogates the ideas we are taught to revere and asks what they cost us when left unexamined.
