These are not isolated tragedies. They are part of a long-standing and deeply rooted crisis of intimate partner violence (IPV) that continues to disproportionately impact Black women. Dr. Cerina Fairfax, a respected dentist and mother of two, was killed on April 16, 2026, by her husband, former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, in an apparent murder-suicide.
