You ever heard a song and it fit your current relationship story perfectly? That's how it was when I rediscovered Patti LaBelle's, "If You Asked Me To." LaBelle, released this song in 1989 from her album, Be Yourself. I remember hearing the Celine Dion version as well and falling in love with the song all over again. Celine Dion is another artist who has hits! I love the way she covers Jennifer Rush's, "The Power of Love."
It wasn't until I was in my late 20s that "If You Asked Me To" began to represent a moment in my love life. I was dating a guy, and we were in the car driving to his family's house because they all lived on one block. They would all gather together on the weekend to play cards and cookout and all the kids could play freely and random games would start, and it was a lot of fun.
I loved that he enjoyed spending time with his extended family, and I could see that his nieces and nephews really loved him and enjoyed him being around. He would help out with certain chores or errands while there because he was young and strong and handy.
One day on the way there this song came on the radio, and we were both listening to it, humming the words we didn't know and singing the ones we did. We ended up singing together and the more I listened to the lyrics they took shape and became alive in that moment because they truly represented how I felt. We both confessed that we felt the same way after the song ended and it became "our" song.
We both entered into this relationship coming from something long-term and very serious and involved kids. We were both in place of not really knowing what would come next or if there was something next. But, yes, there was. We found each other and it was beautiful.
Even though our relationship ended its still our song because I can never deny how it fit so perfectly for that moment in time and I don't want to change it. I hear this song and I still smile and remember singing together and feeling the power of love.
Used to be that I believed in something Used to be that I believe in love It's been a long time since I've had that feeling I could love someone I could trust someone I said, I'd never let nobody near my heart again, darlin' I said, I'd never let nobody in
But if you asked me to I just might change my mind And let you in my life forever If you asked me to I just might give my heart And stay here in your arms forever If you asked me to If you asked me to
Somehow ever since I've been around you Can't go back to being on my own Can't help feeling, darlin', since I've found you That I've found my home That I'm finally home I said, I'd never let nobody get too close to me, darlin' I said, I needed, needed to be free
But if you asked me to I just might change my mind And let you in my life forever If you asked me to I just might give my heart And stay here in your arms forever If you
Ask me to and I will give my world To you baby I need you now Ask me to and I'll do anything For you baby For you baby
If you asked me to I'd let you in my life forever All you gotta do is ask me to
The whispers in the morning Of lovers sleeping tight Are rolling by like thunder now As I look in your eyes
I hold on to your whole body And feel each move you make Your voice is warm and tender A love that I could not forsake
'Cause I'm your lady And you are my man Whenever you reach for me I'll do all that I can
Lost is how I'm feeling lying in your arms When the world outside's too much to take That all ends when I'm with you
Even though there may be times It seems I'm far away Never wonder where I am 'Cause I am always by your side
'Cause I'm your lady And you are my man Whenever you reach for me I'll do all that I can
We're heading for something Somewhere I've never been Sometimes I am frightened But I'm ready to learn Of the power of love
The sound of your heart beating Made it clear suddenly The feeling that I can't go on Is light years away
'Cause I'm your lady And you are my man Whenever you reach for me I'll do all that I can
We're heading for something Somewhere I've never been Sometimes I am frightened But I'm ready to learn Of the power of love
The power of love The power of love
Sometimes I am frightened But I'm ready to learn Of the power of love

Surveillance Pricing: The Hidden Cost of Your Personal Data Have you ever noticed that prices seem to fluctuate depending on how and where you shop? Maybe you’ve used Instacart or another grocery delivery app and found that the price of your favorite milk online is higher than what you’d pay in-store. At first, these small discrepancies might seem like an unavoidable part of online shopping. But what if I told you that businesses might be charging you more based on who you are? Surveillance pricing is a practice where companies use personal data—such as your age, gender, income level, or even your location—to adjust the prices you see. Essentially, what you pay for everyday items could depend on what retailers assume you can afford. A recent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) study revealed how this type of pricing discrimination is becoming more common, with companies using advanced algorithms to analyze consumer behavior and set prices accordingly. For example, someone shopping in a low...
In the Last Days: The Church vs. The Black Israelites Across social media, a recent viral moment has sparked intense discussion within the faith community. A prayer event led by Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchel was met with protests by a group identifying as the Black Israelites — reigniting long-standing debates about faith, race, and identity in the Black community. The confrontation, caught on video, shows the deep divide growing between traditional Christianity and movements that challenge its authority and cultural roots. The Black Israelites, also known as the Hebrew Israelites, are members of a religious movement that teaches that African Americans are the direct descendants of the ancient Israelites — the chosen people of the Bible. This belief system holds that through the transatlantic slave trade, African Americans were stripped of their true identity, history, and divine purpose. While not all Black Israelite groups are identical in their teachings, most share common beliefs: ...
