Vlog: About Last Weekend
Family, Community & A Baptism

Last weekend was filled with food, fun and finding my book at my local library.

I’ve recently been on a mission to make my book and all QCP magazines free at my local library. The process was not as swift and easy as I expected. It started with a phone call and after a few visits to my local library, some unreturned phone calls and emails I finally received an email from them stating that my book A Grown Woman’s Game would be on the shelf soon.

Last weekend I decided to go out and leave brochures and resources at two of our favorite libraries for MAACA. While there I checked with the ladies at the desk, and they were so sweet and happy to show me where I could find my book.

One library down and 6 more to go in Pasco. I learned that you can only submit 1 title per branch and up to 7 copies. I decided to distribute a different magazine for each library that will be available for the community to check out. I already have plans to tackle Hillsborough County (Tampa) a neighboring county library next.

I submitted for Duval Connect Magazine to be available at all DPL but the process has taken a lot longer than I expected. Jacksonville is a much larger city with twice as many libraries. They have a youthful department that handles their magazine (zine) collection. But I know that everything will happen in God’s timing.

Soaking up some family fun-Celebrating Deondra’s 50th Birthday

I was invited to Deondra’s 50th Birthday celebration that her children planned and prepared for her. It was amazing to see them all gather around her and dance and celebrate her life. Some of her friends drove in from a nearby city and all of her children and grandchildren enjoyed themselves dancing and singing karaoke.

During one of our past Sunday dinners while sitting in her living room she began to share how she wanted to add a water element to her living room and a bell went off in my mind. I decided right then to go onto Amazon and purchase her the perfect table-top waterfall.

She was so happy when she opened it. As she was opening her gift, I told to her that she’d mentioned that she wanted this exact same thing. At first, she thought it was “a rose”, lol, I said noooo not that conversation, another one!

Sunday Morning Baptism

I wrapped up last weekend with a Sunday morning baptism. In another one of our Sunday dinners Deondra mentioned that she wanted to get baptized again. Turns out her church was hosting a baptism service the same Sunday her birthday fell on. I said to her, “wow It’s like your rebirth.”

It was a blessing to see the young men and women who reclaimed their lives through the gift of salvation and through baptism. I was thankful to witness it all. It reminded me to look at all the things God has blessed me with—my family, my friends and my community.

Why You Might Be Paying More Than Your Neighbor for the Same Product

Surveillance Pricing: The Hidden Cost of Your Personal Data Have you ever noticed that prices seem to fluctuate depending on how and where you shop? Maybe you’ve used Instacart or another grocery delivery app and found that the price of your favorite milk online is higher than what you’d pay in-store. At first, these small discrepancies might seem like an unavoidable part of online shopping. But what if I told you that businesses might be charging you more based on who you are? Surveillance pricing is a practice where companies use personal data—such as your age, gender, income level, or even your location—to adjust the prices you see. Essentially, what you pay for everyday items could depend on what retailers assume you can afford. A recent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) study revealed how this type of pricing discrimination is becoming more common, with companies using advanced algorithms to analyze consumer behavior and set prices accordingly. For example, someone shopping in a low...

The Ones Closest to You Can Hurt You The Worst.

The Ones Closest to You Can Hurt You the Worst. It’s cold down here in sunny Florida so I’m bundled up at the office, but I had to share something that came across my mind. I thought about a conversation I had with a friend years ago. I didn’t quite get to finish my thought, but I said all of this to say, “when someone shows you who they are believe them the first time.” Thank you, Maya Angelou. Sometimes the ones closest to you and know you best are the ones they can hurt you the most because they have the information. They know you. If you’ve been in relationship (friend or family or romantic) for a long time they understand the things that can hurt, you through trial and error. It’s never an accident when they scare you with spiders when you’ve told them you’re afraid of them. They know what to do to move you emotionally and sometimes it’s only for their sick and twisted enjoyment. It’s not friendship and it never was. And when they show you that, even in a “joke” trust and...
