The votes are in! Choosing my next book cover.

When I took these photos in 2020, I knew then that one of these pictures would be used for the cover of Phatabulously Made.  I worked with Jose Pagan Photography, and we traveled out to a beautiful beach in Florida.  These were taken just steps from the water in an open field.  I laid a gigantic checkerboard sheet across the ground, and we lined up the large checker pieces around the board and he was able to snap these beautiful photos.

When I first started designing the cover, I settled on these six and tried a variety of font types and filters to add depth and to give it the book representation of who I am and what I was feeling during the moments I'm describing in the book.

I love this zebra print jumpsuit and I knew this would be the garment for the cover.  Why? Because I love zebras-the animal.  They're mysterious and beautiful.  I found this jumpsuit on Style Your Curves website- an online boutique with stylish plus size apparel.  This garment was perfect for this shoot and cover because it's light weight and although there was a light breeze coming off the water that day, I felt cool, and I was able to move around well for the various poses.

Which one is your favorite?

Phatabulously Made was supposed to be the first book released from Queen Connect Publishing (insert eye roll).  However, while writing it I began writing about another time in my life that I felt like it was important to discuss and get out.

A Grown Woman's Game was inspired by Phatabulously Made.  I love how honest I was able to be about my weight issues and while recounting moments of my childhood other things began to resurface and they were more important to address.
I promised myself that I would return to Phatabulously Made and finish up and publish it and I've done that, and I cannot wait for you all to read it.

In March of this year 2022 I held a book release event in Jacksonville Florida---my hometown.  During that event I displayed a notebook with these photos, and I asked the attendees to please help me choose the next cover to my book.  I placed a number on each picture, and they all voted for their favorite ones.  Well, the votes are in and have been tallied.

Check out this short video of me reading the votes and selecting the cover to Phatabulously Made.

More information comes out about Tik Tok ban.

More information comes out about Tik Tok ban. The potential TikTok ban in the U.S. has stirred up a lot of emotions, especially for those who rely on the platform for entertainment, connection, or even income. Earlier this year, many were caught off guard by the possibility of losing access to the app, as Congress cited concerns about its impact on teenagers. Recent documents reveal that TikTok was aware of the platform’s addictive nature and its harmful effects, particularly on young users, which adds a new layer to the conversation. It’s alarming to see that not only was the platform aware of these issues, but the harm was reportedly intentional. From my experience as a TikTok user, I can agree that the platform can have negative effects, even when the content itself seems harmless or positive. Spending too much time on any app can be damaging, especially when it pulls you in without you realizing how much time you’ve spent. It’s a reminder that we all need to be mindful of how ...

Black Men Address Kamala Harris + Roland Martin discussion with Black Men + A Black Woman's Response

Black Men Address Kamala Harris + Roland Martin discussion with Black Men + A Black Woman's Response Watch the video and check out my response below.  Share your thoughts in the comment section. In response to the discussions presented in both videos, Roland Martin’s pushback against the narrative that black women in political power neglect black men’s needs highlights the complex relationship between gender, politics, and accountability within the black community. Martin’s insistence on relying on data, particularly regarding education and resource distribution, emphasizes that many of these claims may not be rooted in fact but in perception. It points to a larger conversation about how black men and women experience and navigate systems differently, though they are often impacted by similar forces. The TikTok video responds more directly to the lack of accountability some black men display, calling out the cyclical nature of excuses. The woman in the video argues that black men ...
