Church News: The Bishop, The Blogger and The Community’s Response.

By Candace L. Smith

In the next two seasons of Unfiltered we will discuss the church and community. I may end up references some of these viral moments in the black community regarding clergy. In this video I share my thoughts about the Bishop that was robbed at gunpoint during his church service. He went viral because the robbery happened on live stream and at the time the Bishop was wearing over 400,000 worth of jewels.

The community began to speculate if the robbery was real pointing out various things they felt like didn’t make sense such as the camera movement, the words the Bishop was speaking at the beginning of his sermon right before the robbery, the way the young man casually sat in the corner and didn’t get down and the amount of jewelry the Bishop was wearing.

The Bishop ended up going on the news and the community picked apart his interviews and commentators and bloggers online began to further speculate if the robbery was real and digging into the Bishops past and background. They discovered he had a record and bloggers began to spill tea about the Bishops scandals. One blogger and commentator Larry Reid Live who is known for discussing Black preachers and clergy has gone viral several times for his interviews with black gospel legends and scandals and controversies.

He hopped online and went live from his Instagram inviting a female pastor to join him in discussing the “robbery”. It was clear they did not believe in the robbery so they began to discuss the entire robbery questioning the decor of the church and everything that was public information. During the live the Bishop requested to join and began to say how upset he was that Larry discussing the robbery. They have a past and people in common and have met and the Bishop felt personally attacked by the comments.

Larry made light of the comments he was making and declared that he was helping the Bishop and the conversation went left. The Bishop started saying very inappropriate things towards Larry and the woman. Since that conversation the Bishop continues to have interviews and go live. Larry continues to expose the Bishop for owing other parishioners money and uncovering fraud and theft and reading public records online.
It’s a holy hot mess and here’s my thoughts. 💁🏽‍♀️

Why You Might Be Paying More Than Your Neighbor for the Same Product

Surveillance Pricing: The Hidden Cost of Your Personal Data Have you ever noticed that prices seem to fluctuate depending on how and where you shop? Maybe you’ve used Instacart or another grocery delivery app and found that the price of your favorite milk online is higher than what you’d pay in-store. At first, these small discrepancies might seem like an unavoidable part of online shopping. But what if I told you that businesses might be charging you more based on who you are? Surveillance pricing is a practice where companies use personal data—such as your age, gender, income level, or even your location—to adjust the prices you see. Essentially, what you pay for everyday items could depend on what retailers assume you can afford. A recent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) study revealed how this type of pricing discrimination is becoming more common, with companies using advanced algorithms to analyze consumer behavior and set prices accordingly. For example, someone shopping in a low...

In the Last Days: The Church vs. The Black Israelites

In the Last Days: The Church vs. The Black Israelites Across social media, a recent viral moment has sparked intense discussion within the faith community. A prayer event led by Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchel was met with protests by a group identifying as the Black Israelites — reigniting long-standing debates about faith, race, and identity in the Black community. The confrontation, caught on video, shows the deep divide growing between traditional Christianity and movements that challenge its authority and cultural roots. The Black Israelites, also known as the Hebrew Israelites, are members of a religious movement that teaches that African Americans are the direct descendants of the ancient Israelites — the chosen people of the Bible. This belief system holds that through the transatlantic slave trade, African Americans were stripped of their true identity, history, and divine purpose. While not all Black Israelite groups are identical in their teachings, most share common beliefs: ...
